This morning Spotify introduced a new way for artists, managers, and labels to submit their unreleased music for consideration on official Spotify Editorial playlists.
Read the full press release on Spotify's blog
- This feature can be found via your Spotify for Artists dashboard or Spotify Analytics for labels
- Allows you to select one unreleased song for submission to over 100 Spotify playlist editors
- Note that it's important to include info on the track (genre, mood, instruments, cover, culture, and other data points). The more info the better
- Submit one week in advance to be automatically added into your follower's Release Radar
Although I believe that this will create a whole lot more noise for the Playlist Editors, I would recommend including this in all pre-release marketing strategies moving forward. (But just keep in mind that nothing will be more powerful than a personal relationship with the Playlister)
I don't have any unreleased songs to use as an experiment but would love to hear about your experience with the submission process when you get around to using it.
If you have any questions, just let me know!
